Our Philosophy

We believe that each child comes to us with a wealth of knowledge, experience and images of their own and they have the right to be active participants in their own living and learning. 

For this reason our program is flexible and allows ample room for the many possibilities and opportunities for learning that occur on a daily basis.

Investigating the world through play is the most successful way for young children to develop the skills to be lifelong learners. 

Children’s learning is accelerated and has more meaning when they have ownership of the curriculum content – where the program is driven by their thoughts and ideas – so we encourage the children to problem solve: to question, think, and find out about things:  to be enthusiastic about learning.  The children are deeply involved in the learning process and encouraged to actively experiment and discover for themselves.

We promote co-operative play and team work.

Recognising its significance in strengthening children’s resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem.  We encourage the thinking and problem solving skills that are involved in forming friendships.  We believe that children need opportunities to strengthen their self-confidence and to develop relationships with others.  We see this as one of the most fundamental learning areas.  The development of a child’s positive self-concept and self-esteem has a profound effect on how a child will cope with life’s challenges.

Our program has a strong emphasis on unstructured play. 

We believe that to develop a sound mind and body it is essential that alongside targeted teaching sessions, young children be afforded the time, space and ability to engage with and explore materials in their own way. We offer a welcoming indoor environment, expansive natural outdoor play spaces and an extensive range of materials and resources which are freely available for investigation, creative expression and manipulation.  We encourage risk-taking at each child’s skill and comfort level and support the development of physical and social skills through experimentation.

We believe its essential children develop a sense of themselves as part of the community they live in. 

Throughout the year we engage with the community through visits from emergency services personnel and the council, a range of incursions and our annual whole of Kindy excursion to the farm.  A visiting early childhood music specialist conducts weekly music sessions with each group.

We encourage parents and other family members to participate in our program.

Parents and carers participate in the parent roster and special event days like Grandparent’s and special person’s day.  We have an open door policy meaning current and future families are welcome to drop in and visit any time.
